Simplifying Citizen Onboarding and Enhancing Communication Systems

This document provides insights into the plans for simplifying citizen onboarding and enhancing communication systems. It also shares experiences from a project under the trust of Auroville.

Key Points for Citizen Onboarding

  1. Understanding the Vision and Goals: It is crucial for citizens to understand the vision and goals of the project. This can be achieved through online meet-ups or personal interactions. Personal interactions tend to have a more significant impact as they allow for a better understanding of any potential conflicts.

  2. Role of Observing Member: An observing member can be assigned to document both tangible and intangible aspects of the project. This member maintains an objective perspective and facilitates smoother communication between people.

Enhanced Tools and Interconnected Communication Systems

The need for enhanced tools and interconnected communication systems is recognized. The vision is to create an intuitive and integrated application that consolidates all information related to the project. This includes a list of fellow members, active roles, initiatives, services, open-tasks, and more from the community under various roles. Currently, this information is fragmented across multiple platforms like Google Workspaces, Slack, GitHub, Atlassian, Gitbook, etc.

Lessons from Auroville Case Study

The Auroville project provides valuable lessons on the importance of effective leadership and communication. The project faced challenges due to a lack of support and finances, and a lack of involvement from the steward. Despite these challenges, the project managed to bring together various artists towards a larger vision.

However, the steward's motivation and approach towards work were problematic. The steward often complained about work and finances, expected volunteers to work without compensation, and showed no signs of gratitude, empathy, or kindness. This led to conflicts and ultimately resulted in the volunteer being asked to leave.

This experience highlights the importance of providing a safe space for volunteers and ensuring that their time, energy, and money are not wasted. It also underscores the need for effective governance to prevent asset depletion and build value.

Conclusion

While most grounds are shaky, the ability to understand or perceive a situation in all its objectivity is crucial. It's important to not base decisions completely on past experiences. The willingness to share and accept help is also vital for the success of any project.
